History of the Company: SM Entertainment (often referred to as SM Town) was established on February 14th, 1995 by Lee Soo-Man. Currently, it is one of the three largest entertainment companies in all of South Korea. This company serves as a record label, talent agency, music production company, event management and concert production company, and music publishing house. In addition, the company has a great number of subsidiaries: SM TinTin Hall, SM Entertainment Japan, SM Academy, DreamMaker Entertainment, SM Pictures, SM Amusement, SM Food & Beverage Development, SM Entertainment USA, SM Town Travel, SM True, SM Culture and Contents, SM Entertainment Beijing, SUM Market, Label SJ, Galaxia SM, ScreaM Records, and SMT Seoul. The company has watched generations of artists and idols come and go throughout the years, but also has had it’s share of troubles, and is widely known for its “slave-contracts”.
